Upcoming position for 2024
Job Title: Captain/Skipper and Guide for Amsterdam Boat Adventures aka the coolest Job in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam Boat Adventures is seeking an enthusiastic Captain/Skipper and Guide to lead our boat tours and provide an unforgettable experience for our customers. Our tours take place on the beautiful canals of Amsterdam and we are looking for someone who has a passion for the city and its history, as well as a love for boating and the water.
We are looking for someone who is available in 2024 for a minimum of 2 days a week or up to 4 days a week (of which at least one weekend day per week).
Shift times can vary between 9:15 and 23:30. We normally have 3 tours per shift per captain. The captain will either pick up the boat in the morning or bring the boat back to the harbour in the evening. Morning shift generally starts at 9:15 or 9:45 and ends at 16:00 or 16:30. Afternoon/evening shift starts mostly at 15:45 and 16:15 and ends around 21:30 or 23:00.
The position is available for freelancers aka ZZp’ers or as a 6 or 9.5 month employee contract.

- Ensure the comfort and satisfaction of passengers, responding to any questions they may have.
- Live in the region of Amsterdam and have a valid working visa
- A passion for Amsterdam and all of its quirks and charms, and the ability to share that passion with others in a way that’s both informative, relaxed and fun.
- A good sense of humor and the ability to roll with the punches (and the waves, and the occasional tourist who insists on taking selfies during the entire tour).
- The ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
- Language skill: English and preferably also Dutch.
The following requirements are preferred or you are willing to get these on short notice:
- VHF licence (marifoon basis certificaat) or RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC)
- The certificate for Social Hygiene (SVH)
- Experience operating boats, preferably in Amsterdam or similar waterways.
- Competitive salary and bonus opportunities
- Paid training and courses, so you’ll be fully ready to entertain our guests.
- A fun and dynamic work environment, with a team of passionate and dedicated individuals.
