Amsterdam Evening Canal Cruise Through the UNESCO Canal Belt

a Relaxing Small-Group Boat Tour

Experience a different side of Amsterdam as the busy day begins to wind down and the city takes on its evening atmosphere.

Our 90-minute Amsterdam Evening Boat Tour takes you through the UNESCO-listed Canal Belt and the charming smaller waterways of the Jordaan. With a maximum of just 12 guests aboard our quiet electric open boat, the experience feels relaxed, personal and far removed from the large sightseeing boats.

Your captain is also your live guide, sharing stories, local insights and Amsterdam history as you cruise past elegant canal houses, historic bridges and some of the city’s most famous landmarks.

Why Choose Our Small-Group Evening Boat Tour?

Maximum 12 Guests

We believe Amsterdam is best experienced in a small group. With no more than 12 guests on board, there is plenty of space to relax, enjoy the views, ask questions and chat with your captain along the way.

Live Captain & Guide

There are no prerecorded audioguides on our boats. Your captain is also your guide and will bring Amsterdam to life with stories about the canals, architecture, landmarks and history you encounter during the cruise.

Open Electric Boat

Our small electric boats glide quietly through Amsterdam’s canals and can explore waterways that larger sightseeing boats cannot always reach. The open design gives you uninterrupted views of the city and makes the experience especially enjoyable for photography.

Drinks Onboard or Bring Your Own

Beer, wine and soft drinks are available to purchase during the cruise. You are also very welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks aboard.

What Will You See on the Amsterdam Evening Boat Tour?

Our evening route focuses on Amsterdam’s famous Canal Belt and the smaller waterways of the Jordaan.

We cruise along the historic Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht, surrounded by magnificent 17th-century canal houses, bridges and houseboats.

From there, we explore picturesque Jordaan canals such as the Egelantiersgracht and Bloemgracht, where the waterways become narrower and the atmosphere more intimate.

Along the route you can see landmarks including the  Dancing Houses, Munttoren, Floating Flower Market, Noorderkerk, Westerkerk, Anne Frank House, Seven Bridges, Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge)  and Amsterdam’s historic canal houses.

Routes may occasionally change because of canal closures, events, weather conditions or other restrictions on the waterways.

What Is the Best Time for an Evening Boat Tour in Amsterdam?

One of the things we love about cruising Amsterdam in the evening is that the experience changes throughout the year.

In spring and autumn, our later departures can take place around sunset, twilight or after dark. As the daylight fades, the lights along the bridges and canal houses begin reflecting on the water and the atmosphere of the city changes completely.

During the long summer evenings, Amsterdam stays light until late. Rather than a night cruise, you may experience warm evening light, golden hour and Amsterdam at one of its liveliest times of day.

There isn’t one departure time that is best for everyone.

Choose an earlier evening cruise if you prefer daylight, warmer temperatures or are travelling with children.

Choose a later departure if you would like a better chance of experiencing sunset, twilight or Amsterdam’s illuminated bridges.

Because sunset times vary considerably throughout the season and the weather is never guaranteed, we cannot promise a sunset on any particular departure.

Comfortable in Changing Amsterdam Weather

Amsterdam weather can be unpredictable, but that doesn’t necessarily mean your cruise has to be.

Our boats have a retractable canopy that can be used when it rains, along with blankets for cooler evenings. During the colder part of our season, heated seat cushions add some extra warmth.

We recommend checking the forecast before your cruise and bringing an extra layer, particularly for later departures.

A Relaxed Way to End Your Day in Amsterdam

After a day of sightseeing, there is something special about watching Amsterdam glide past from the water.

Sit back with a drink, enjoy the views and let our captain show you the city from a different perspective.

With just 12 guests, a quiet electric boat and a route through some of Amsterdam’s most beautiful canals, our evening cruise is designed to feel less like a large sightseeing attraction and more like spending an evening on the canals with a local.

Book your Amsterdam Evening Boat Tour and experience the Canal Belt as the city moves from day into evening.

The best departure depends on the experience you're looking for. Earlier evening cruises generally offer more daylight, while later departures have a better chance of experiencing sunset, twilight or Amsterdam after dark. In summer, Amsterdam stays light until quite late, so even our later cruises can take place in daylight.

Not necessarily. Amsterdam's sunset time changes dramatically throughout the year. During midsummer it stays light until late in the evening, while spring and autumn departures are more likely to include twilight or darkness.

Sometimes, and when the timing is right, sunset can be spectacular from the canals. However, sunset times vary throughout the season and the weather also plays a part, so we cannot guarantee a sunset during your cruise.

If you would particularly like to experience Amsterdam around sunset, we recommend checking the sunset time for Amsterdam on your chosen date before booking and selecting the departure time that gives you the best chance of catching it.
